Code of Ethics Print

 Online Resource..

We have come across a very usesful site from the NSPCC. There are some very usefull video clips on it regarding coaching etc. See http://www.nspcc.org.uk/Inform/cpsu/Resources/Video/PoorPractice/PoorPractice_wda65063.html

The Irish Sports Council and the Sports Council for Northern Ireland published a joint Code of Ethics and Good Practice for Children's Sport in 2000. This major joint publication recognised the commitment of both Councils to ensure that young people are safeguarded in their participation in sport in the island of Ireland.

At present, there are a number of ways by which sports clubs and volunteers can access training in the code.

  1. Through the Sports Partnership and the National Governing Bodies for Sport, there is a 4 hour awareness workshop covering all aspect of the code from Children and Sport to Child Abuse recognition and reportinig procedures.
  2. A 6 hour Club Childrens Officer training is also available for individuals in the club who have been appointed as the Childrens Officer. (The 4 hour workshop must be completed first)

It is expected that every sports club on the island will have an up to date and active Code of Ethics and Good Pracctice for Childrens Sport.

In Clare LSP, we will be runnig a number of workshops in the coming year. Please see our calendar for dates or email info@claresportspartnership to register your interest.

Our collegues in Sligo Sports and Recreation Partnershhip have developed some useful club resources around the Code of Ethics. Please see http://www.sligosportandrecreation.ie/sports-development/code-of-ethics/   for further details.
